Lao Niu Foundation LogoTo those who care about the Pendeba Society and Tibet’s environmental development:

The Pendeba Society is delighted to receive a 1 million yuan RMB grant from Lao Niu Foundation, which will be specifically designated for a two-year project focused on ecological conservation and community Pendeba capacity building. A series of sub-projects will be implemented including renovation of the Pendeba Training Center, transformation of traditional sheep corrals along Pengqu River and three sessions of Pendeba capacity building trainings.

Training Center 2By renovating the Pendeba Training Center, our project aims to provide a better training vanue and environment for over 300 senior Pendebas in QNNP and new coming community workers. This will help better promote the Pendeba model, and involve more people to join in the cause of nature conservation. We plan to renovate the training center building and upgrade the facilities with environmentally friendly equipments such as solar water heaters and solar power panels, in the hope of setting the training center as an example of green building in the region. After the renovation, all the revenues from the Center will contribute to environmental conservaton and community development work in the preserve.

Enba Wetland Conservation Project Launched 3Additionally, by transforming traditional sheep corrals which are made of wetland soil, the project will help mitigate the harm to the wetlands along Pengqu River, and better conserve ecological environmental while meeting the needs for local community development. The project will protect 100 hectares of wetlands and neighboring water sources for human, livestock and agricultural irrigation. It covers 8 villages in Nyalam County, and over 3000 villagers and 55000 livestock will benefit with around 65000 square meters’ sheep corrals being transformed.

Pendeba MeetingIn the meantime, Pendebas, especially senior Pendebas, have played a significant role in their respective communities. The trainings provided by this project will try to meet some of the most urgent needs from these senior Pendebas, and offer pertinent trainings focused on nature conservation and livelihood empowerment. Skills and knowledge gained from these trainings will then be passed onto other community members by these senior Pendebas, scaling up the impacts of the project.

In this regard, we would very much like to express our genuine gratitude towards Lao Niu Foundation for their generous support. We would also like to thank those who put their effort and help in the Pendeba Society to advance environmental conservation and community development in Tibet.
